On 9 September 2026, the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) held the Reappointment Ceremony of Expert Members and the  Fifth Seminar of the International Commercial Expert Committee of the China International Commercial Court.  For the first time, it was held in Shanghai, at the Shanghai #1 Intermediate People’s Court, with which the Shanghai International Commercial Court is affiliated.  As can be seen from the photo above, it was a very large scale event and everything went extremely smoothly,  with judicial personnel from the Shanghai courts providing extensive support for the event.  To me it was apparent that complex planning was involved in making apparently effortless this large event attended in person by senior leadership of the SPC,  senior Shanghai Party and state leaders, representatives from international organizations, and several senior English judges affiliated with the Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts,  Expert Committee members from various corners of the world, and representatives from the institutions affiliated with the one-stop platform.  All involved in making the event a success deserve congratulations!

My own contribution suggested ways for the expert committee to make a greater contribution.  Many of the formal speeches were insightful, and I enjoyed the opportunity for informal conversations with old and new friends.
